Mr. Frank F. Islam is an entrepreneur, philanthropist, civic leader and thought leader. Mr. Islam has a special commitment to civic, educational and artistic causes, and in all of his endeavors, he strives to create opportunities that are sustainable and uplifting for humanity—guided by the virtues of hard work, focus, quality, innovation and kindness.

Mr. Islam heads the FI Investment Group, a private investment holding company that he established in 2007 after he sold his information technology firm, the QSS Group. He founded the QSS Group in 1994 and built it from 1 employee to more than 2,000 employees and a revenue of approximately 300 million dollars before its sale.

Currently, Mr. Islam devotes the majority of his time to a wide variety of civic and philanthropic causes. He serves and has served on numerous boards and advisory councils, including the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; the Board of Directors of the Strathmore Center for the Arts; the Board of Trustees for Ford’s Theater Society; and the Board of Trustees for the Kennedy Center International Committee on the Arts. Furthermore, he is personally involved with Brookings Institution Council; a member of Center of American Progress (CAP); a member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Council; a member of the Woodrow Wilson Center National Cabinet; and a member of the  International Advisory Council of the U.S. Institute of Peace.

Mr. Frank also serves on the board of various renowned higher education institutions, including at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS); the Johns Hopkins University Advisory Council; the University of Maryland Smith School of Business; the George Mason University School of Management’s Dean’s Council; the American University School of International Service’s Dean’s Council; the University of Malaysia International Advisory Panel; and the American University of Afghanistan.

Over the past several years, Mr. Islam has established a reputation as a writer and thought leader. He has authored two books: ‘Working the Pivot Points: To Make America Work Again’ (2013); and, ‘Renewing the American Dream: A Citizen’s Guide for Restoring Our Competitive Advantage’ (2010). He blogs regularly for The Huffington Post and also writes occasional columns and articles for publications such as Foreign Policy, the International Business Times and the Economic Times of India.

Mr. Islam also hosts his own TV show “Washington Current Review” on MHz Networks and is called upon to speak frequently at a variety of business, education and non-profit venues. He has been awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Award for International Service; the  Global Leadership Award; the Montgomery County Business Hall of Fame Award; and many others.

For more than twenty-five years, Mr. Islam was an active participant in the information technology aerospace engineering services, and the systems integration business. During his professional career, he earned multiple industry awards for leadership, entrepreneurship and excellence. Historically, he has been recognized by Ernst and Young as the Maryland Entrepreneur of the Year, and the US Small Business Administration selected him as the Small Business Person of the Year of the Washington DC Metropolitan Area in 2001.

Mr. Islam has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Colorado.
