Dr. Osama M. Al-Habahbeh is a Professor of Mechatronics Engineering with expertise spanning robotics, autonomous systems, artificial intelligence applications, IoT, industrial automation, engineering systems, reliability assessment, modeling and simulation, drones, green energy, and smart infrastructure. His research interests include intelligent and autonomous robotic systems, robotics and drone applications, IoT-enabled systems, smart agriculture, sustainable engineering, engineering system reliability, and the application of emerging technologies to industrial and infrastructure challenges. He has authored 70 publications in scientific journals and conferences, in addition to two books, Advanced Manufacturing and Introduction to Aviation Engineering, and holds patents related to smart transportation and robotic fruit harvesting. His research has included projects involving robotic systems, autopilot software using ROS and Gazebo, IoT, autonomous systems, and renewable energy.
Dr. Al-Habahbeh has extensive teaching, academic leadership, and administrative experience in higher education. He has taught and developed courses in robotics, automation, modeling and simulation, numerical methods, dynamics, engineering systems, entrepreneurship and innovation, and other engineering disciplines, and has experience with traditional, blended, and online learning. He served as Head of the Mechatronics Engineering Department at the University of Jordan from 2021 to 2023, leading a department of more than 500 students and achieving ABET accreditation with no shortcomings. He also served as Vice-Dean of Students’ Affairs and Director of the Career Guidance and Alumni Office at the University of Jordan. His international academic and professional experience includes appointments and research activities in Jordan, the United States, Australia, and Kuwait, as well as consulting and training engagements with organizations including DEWA, Dubai Municipality, Kahramaa, Saudi Arabian Chevron, and other regional institutions.
Dr. Al-Habahbeh earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson University, New York, USA, where his research focused on physics-based reliability assessment of engineering systems, following an MSc and BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Jordan. He is a member of the Jordan Engineers Association, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), SAE International, IEEE, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). His research and professional activities have attracted significant international and institutional funding, including participation in the EUR 351,886 TECGREMED Erasmus+ project and management, proposal development, and coordination activities for the USD 11 million Korea-Jordan Training Institute for Engineering & Technology project in AI, IoT, cybersecurity, and green energy. His honors include a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Newcastle, a GE Energy PhD Scholarship, the Distinguished Trainer Award, and multiple awards for robotics and engineering projects.
