As Acting Dean, Prof. Cornwell leads strategy in curriculum innovation, quality assurance, faculty development, and student success. He is strengthening school partnerships to expand clinical practice and practicum opportunities, aligning programs with evolving national and international standards, and promoting digital transformation and the responsible use of AI in education. He also advocates for inclusive excellence and collaborative research, building international academic partnerships and flexible learning pathways—such as the master’s degree and postgraduate diploma introduced in Fall 2025—to meet the region’s workforce needs.

Prof. Cornwell earned his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Connecticut and has previously taught at several American universities, including the United States Military Academy (West Point), Drew University, the University of Mary Washington, and Salem State University. He values the opportunity to meld the strengths of the American higher-education system with the UAE’s culture, traditions, and global goals to support AUE’s vision of becoming a leading university in the region.

Prof. William Cornwell serves as Acting Dean of the College of Education and Provost at the American University in the Emirates (AUE). A seasoned leader in higher education in Dubai, he is committed to preparing reflective, practice-ready educators who support the UAE’s national goals and align with global best practices. The College of Education also houses AUE’s general education program, and Prof. Cornwell is dedicated to ensuring every undergraduate builds a strong foundation in the arts and humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, writing, mathematics, and research skills.
