CSGS Highlights from the Fall 2025 Semester

The College of Security and Global Studies (CSGS) at the American University in the Emirates continues to strengthen its regional and international presence through impactful events, expert contributions, and high-level academic engagements. Below is an overview of the key activities conducted and attended by the college’s faculty members during this semester.

Dean Participates as Guest Speaker at Dubai Police Event
Prof. Eldar Saljic, Dean of CSGS, was invited as a guest speaker at the Dubai Police Research & Development Center’s panel discussion titled “The Future of People’s Protection in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
His participation reflects the college’s continuous involvement in national security dialogues and AI-driven policy discussions.
Media Appearances by Dr. Elie Al Hindy
Dr. Elie Al Hindy, Chair of the Department of Security and Strategic Studies, appeared across multiple media outlets where he provided expert commentary on current political affairs and regional developments.
International Conference & Book Launch by Dr. Julian Schmid
Dr. Julian Schmid represented the college at the 16th Popular Culture and World Politics (PCWP) Conference in Lisbon, hosted by ISCTE University.
He also presented his latest work, “Marvel, DC and US Security: The Superhero Genre and Foreign Policy in the 21st Century.”
CSGS Faculty Attend the Knowledge Summit
Several CSGS faculty members participated in this year’s Knowledge Summit, engaging with policymakers, researchers, and international experts.

CSGS Workshop Week (17–20 November)
CSGS hosted its annual Workshop Week, where 14 industry experts delivered specialized sessions for undergraduate students.
The workshops covered a wide range of topics relevant to security, diplomacy, AI, and global affairs.
Diplomacy Lab – Lecture by Australian Ambassador
The Diplomacy Program hosted a special lecture at Dubai Design District delivered by H.E. Ridwan Jadwat, Australian Ambassador to the UAE, as part of the CSGS Diplomacy Lab initiative.
Students engaged directly with the Ambassador on topics related to diplomacy and international cooperation.
Online Workshop on “AI & Intelligence Analysis”
CSGS organized an online workshop featuring Prof. Frederic Lemieux from Georgetown University, focusing on the future of intelligence, data analytics, and AI-supported security operations.
CSGS Faculty Participation at the Dubai Airshow 2025
Several faculty members represented the College of Security and Global Studies at the Dubai Airshow 2025.
International Conference on “Artificial Intelligence and Security” – Serbia
Prof. Eldar attended and presented at the ‘International Scientific-Professional Conference’, “Artificial Intelligence and Security in the 21st Century” at the Belgrade School of Engineering Management, University “Union – Nikola Tesla” in Serbia.
