Dr. Oshane Thorpe holds a Ph.D. from the Institute of Communication Studies at the Communication University of China with a specialization in Communication (2017). His dissertation examined the usage of global media trends to track the change in hegemonic power and developed a metric that must be fulfilled for the change in power to be achieved. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in Journals such as Sustainability, Data, Journal of Educational Social Research, among others. His current research focuses on the usage of social media app usage in mediatizing traditional beliefs as well as social media and privacy.
Prior to joining the American University in the Emirates in Dubai, Dr. Thorpe taught at the Beijing University of Technology and at the Tianjin Foreign Studies University, China. His teaching expertise includes Media and Mass Communication, New Media, Qualitative Research, Communication and Technology, Journalism. Dr. Thorpe also holds an MA in International Communication with a concentration in Political Journalism from the Communication University of China (2013). His master’s thesis was a study on the changing media landscape of Central and Latin America and its correlation with Chinese Foreign Direct Investments.
