Brief History of AUE

2007
2007-2008

Fall

  • The American University in the Emirates (AUE) was born as American College in the Emirates (ACE), with 40 students, awarding associate degrees in media, information technology, business and design.
2009-2010

Fall

  • ACE transformed into the American University in the Emirates (AUE) with four colleges: College of Media and Mass Communication, College of Computer Information Technology, College of Business, and College of Design.
2010-2011

Fall

  • AUE’s College of Law was established
  • AUE started offering graduate degrees. The first two offered were: Master of Arts in Diplomacy and Master of Arts in Business Administration
  • AUE’s athletic team was formed and the first student council was created
  • AUE held its first car show, which has become a yearly, successful event hosted at AUE

Spring

  • AUE reached 1000 students
2011-2012

Fall

  • AUE celebrated its first graduating class on 11/11/11
  • AUE held its first fashion show, an underwater fashion show at Atlantis

Spring

  • AUE’s football team won first place in the Dubai University Football League and third place in the UAE National University Football League
  • AUE won first place in the University Swimming Championship of UAE. Since then, AUE has continuously ranked first in the Swimming Championship
2012-2013

  • AUE reached 2000 students
2013-2014

Fall

  • Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development in the UAE, AUE and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) hosted an international conference on NATO’s approach to Gulf Cooperation, Lessons Learned and Future Challenges

Spring

  • AUE hosted its first Global Day event to promote culture diversity awareness and celebrate all the different nationalities represented at AUE. Students collaborated with their embassies and councils in preparation for the event. AUE now hosts this event on a yearly basis
  • AUE hosted its first event to raise breast cancer awareness, in the presence of Dubai Police, Dubai Health Authority, MBC, and other hospitals. Since then, AUE has hosted a number of events to promote cancer awareness
  • AUE’s football team ranked first, for the first time, in the UAE National University Football League
2014-2015

Fall

  • AUE held its first International Cancer Awareness Forum, in the presence of the Minister of Health of Saudi Arabia, the chief of Health Ministers in the GCC, and Princess Dina Mired from Jordan

Spring

  • AUE held its first International Conference on Sports Law and Sports Management
  • AUE built its first Iftar tent, in collaboration with the UAE Red Crescent, to support the community around its campus during the holy month of Ramadan, and has continued to do so
2015-2016

Fall

  • The International Majlis of Women was established to empower women and encourage them to become agents of positive change. The former First Lady of South Africa and the First Lady of Ghana attended the inauguration.
2016-2017

Fall

  • AUE’s College of Education was established

Spring

  • AUE held its 1st International Equine Forum, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, to discuss the challenges and future innovations in the race of equine excellence
2017-2018

Fall

  • AUE’s College of Security and Global Studies was established
  • AUE held its first International Research Conference, in association with Springer, on creative business and social innovation

Spring

  • AUE won its seventh first-place title in the Dubai Football League in a row, and its third first-place title in the UAE National Football League
  • AUE participated for the first time in the Universities Championship for Beach Volleyball and won first place
2018-2019

Fall

  • AUE held its second International Research Conference, in association with Springer, on sustainable development and social responsibility
  • AUE proudly represented the UAE in the Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF) Football Cup held in China
